Serena Poon is on the podcast today, and I asked her the question I ask every longevity expert: will we ever be able to reverse our skin age? Her answer gave me chills (her team is already doing it in the lab).

We get into the tests she wants every woman in her 30s and 40s to ask for, why she thinks we're all hyper-fixating on protein, and the one thing she'd start at 40 so your older self thanks you. Also, she eats fries every time she travels. No guilt. I loved this one.

We talk about:
✨ The tests to ask your doctor for in your 30s and 40s, and why perimenopause can start years before you feel it
✨ Protein maxing, GLP-1s and muscle loss, and why she worries about your kidneys
✨ The foods that age you faster, her sugar swaps, and her perfect day of eating
✨ Rapid fire: breakfast, coffee vs matcha, alcohol, CGMs, cold plunge, sauna and 10,000 steps

Jim Kwik on Memory, AI, and Why Natural Intelligence Beats Artificial Intelligence

Your brain is quietly outsourcing itself to AI, and you won't notice until it's gone. This episode gives you the exact framework to use artificial intelligence as a tool for brain optimization instead of a crutch that erodes your memory, focus, and critical thinking.

Host Dave Asprey sits down with Jim Kwik, one of the world's leading experts in memory improvement, brain optimization, and accelerated learning. For more than 30 years, Jim has served as the brain coach to professional athletes, political leaders, business magnates, and Hollywood icons, with corporate clients including Google, Nike, SpaceX, and Harvard. He hosts the Kwik Brain podcast with over 100 million downloads, reaches 200,000 people annually through live keynotes, and just wrapped his 14th annual Beyond Biohacking Conference with 5,000 attendees in Austin. Jim overcame a childhood brain injury that left him labeled "learning disabled," and turned that struggle into a mission he calls "no brain left behind."

They break down the MIT study showing that people who use AI to write and think score worse on memory and comprehension than those who rely on their own brains, and why that matters for anyone serious about longevity, human performance, and anti-aging. Jim introduces the concept of digital dementia and cognitive sovereignty, explaining how nootropics, neuroplasticity, and functional medicine can support your biology while AI still requires you to keep your own hardware sharp. They cover the MEDS Rx framework for brain optimization: meditation, exercise, diet, sleep optimization, and relationships, plus why mitochondria, metabolism, and inflammation from processed food directly impact your cognitive output. Jim also shares how his own kids use AI as a tutor rather than a replacement for thinking, and why sleep inertia and the first few minutes after waking set the tone for your entire day.

This is essential listening for anyone serious about biohacking, hacking their own brain, longevity, neuroplasticity, brain optimization, supplements, and building a Smarter Not Harder approach to human performance in the age of AI.

You'll Learn:
-Why the MIT study found AI users had weaker memory and comprehension than people who did the work themselves
-What digital dementia and digital deduction are, and how they quietly erode your cognitive muscles
-How to use AI as an augmented intelligence partner instead of a replacement for critical thinking
-The MEDS Rx framework for brain optimization: meditation, exercise, diet, sleep, and relationships
-Why the first few minutes after waking determine your focus and mood for the entire day
-How spaced repetition and AI-assisted learning can lock in new skills and behavior change faster
-The HUMAN framework for staying irreplaceable in a world run by algorithms

The Human Upgrade Podcast: https://www.instagram.com/TheHumanUpgradePodcast/ https://m.facebook.com/Thehumanupgrade/

You are not eating because you are hungry. You are eating because you have been trained to, and the food industry designed it that way. This episode dismantles everything you thought you knew about hunger, weight loss, and metabolism, and gives you a science-backed framework to finally stop fighting your own biology.

Host Dave Asprey sits down with Dr. Jason Fung, a New York Times bestselling author, practicing nephrologist, and one of the most trusted voices in functional medicine and metabolic health. Dr. Fung completed medical school at the University of Toronto and a fellowship in nephrology at Stanford University. He is the author of multiple critically acclaimed books including The Obesity Code, The Diabetes Code, and his newest release The Hunger Code, and is the co-founder of The Fasting Method, a program designed to help people lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes through fasting and real food nutrition. His work has helped millions break free from calorie restriction dogma for good.

Together, Dave and Dr. Fung expose the three types of hunger driving the obesity epidemic, why calorie restriction fails almost every time, and what ultra-processed foods actually do to your brain's reward system. They get into the real science of fasting, metabolism, hormonal signaling, GLP-1 drugs, food addiction, conditioned eating behavior, and how your physical environment is quietly sabotaging your results. If you are serious about biohacking your hunger, optimizing your body composition, and taking control of your biology without white-knuckling willpower, this episode delivers the tools you need.

You'll Learn:
-Why calorie restriction fails and what actually controls how much you eat
-The three types of hunger: homeostatic, hedonic, and conditioned, and how each one drives overeating
-How ultra-processed foods hijack your dopamine system and destroy satiety signals
-Why wiring your jaw shut or cutting your stomach still does not produce long-term weight loss
-What GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic actually reveal about hunger, metabolism, and the body fat thermostat
-How conditioned hunger works like Pavlov's dogs and practical strategies to reverse it
-The role of your physical environment in controlling food noise and cravings
-Why food addiction is real, and which foods are engineered to keep you hooked
-How fasting resets hunger signals, improves metabolic flexibility, and supports ketosis
-The mindset shift that makes healthy eating feel effortless instead of like deprivation

There is one molecule your body already makes that helps protect your cells from aging, but your production of it drops as you get older.

In this video, I explain why glutathione is known as the body’s master antioxidant and why it plays a critical role in cellular defense, mitochondrial energy, immune regulation, and liver detoxification.

You’ll discover why aging is not just your body “wearing out,” but the slow breakdown of your internal repair and antioxidant defense systems.

You’ll also learn:

Why oxidative stress damages mitochondria and accelerates aging
How glutathione helps protect cells from daily stress
Why your liver uses huge amounts of glutathione for detox support
The difference between oral, liposomal, IV, and topical glutathione
Why delivery matters if you want your body to actually use it
How to stack glutathione with sleep, protein, sunlight, training, and sauna

This video reveals that the brain has a documented neurological focus state driven by prefrontal cortex activation and norepinephrine signaling that most people access accidentally but can learn to trigger reliably. Dave explains the biological mechanism and the specific supplement and behavioral stack that activates this state within 20 minutes.

Most people see chronic fatigue and brain fog as permanent conditions caused by getting older, but this video cuts through that misconception by explaining that these symptoms are actually the direct result of damaged mitochondria piling up inside your cells because a specific longevity switch called mitophagy has been turned off.

If you care about longevity, mitochondria, cardiovascular health, or feeling sharper every day, this episode gives you a clear look at the breakthrough technology that could reshape how supplements are made. Host Dave Asprey talks with Ilan Sobel, CEO of BioHarvest Sciences, about a new way to produce plant compounds at industrial scale without ever growing the plant. Their Botanical Synthesis platform creates highly pure, clinically validated molecules that support blood flow, brain function, metabolic health, and cellular energy with remarkable consistency and no environmental waste.

**Visti www.vinia.com/Dave - for a generous discount on your next purchase**

Ilan brings more than two decades of experience in global biotech and consumer health, and under his leadership BioHarvest has grown its flagship product VINIA into one of the fastest growing plant-based supplements in North America. He explains how the company uses plant cell biology and AI guided cultivation to deliver resveratrol, polyphenols, and other high value compounds with superior bioavailability, purity, and measurable clinical effects on arterial dilation, driven by increasing nitric oxide and  resulting in  improving physical energy, mental alertness and reducing oxidative stress

You will learn:
• Why traditional extraction wastes most of the plant and creates inconsistent supplement quality
• How Botanical Synthesis produces highly bioavailable polyphenols without insecticides, herbacides, fungicides, solvents, or worrying about heavy metal levels.
• Why VINIA increases arterial dilation, improves blood flow, and supports healthy nitric oxide levels
• How reducing ET1 strengthens vascular health in ways typical nitric oxide supplements cannot
• Why better blood flow supports brain performance, mental alertness, and daily physical energy
• What clinical studies show about resveratrol absorption, bioavailability, and 12 hour activity in the bloodstream
• How piceid resveratrol crosses the blood brain barrier to support cognitive function
• Why BioHarvest is developing olive cell compounds like verbascoside for liver fat reduction and cognitive aging
• How future saffron cell technology may influence mood, stress, and cognitive health
• Why this approach offers major advantages for longevity, anti-aging strategies, and high-performance biology

Dave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade brings you the knowledge to take control of your biology, extend your longevity, and optimize every system in your body and mind. Each episode delivers cutting-edge insights in health, performance, neuroscience, supplements, nutrition, biohacking, emotional intelligence, and conscious living.

New episodes are released every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday (BONUS). Dave asks the questions no one else will and gives you real tools to become stronger, smarter, and more resilient.

How CD38, PARP, and Leaky Gut Are Destroying Your NAD Levels | Dr. Andrew Salzman

Your NAD is being drained by two hidden enzymes, your gut may be the starting point of every aging process in your body, and creatine does something to your mitochondria that has nothing to do with muscle. This episode rewrites what you thought you knew about longevity, anti-aging biology, and how your body actually produces and delivers energy at the cellular level.

They are gifting a complimentary 7-day Youngr™ supply (mini pouch) with every order across any of their products. The code will be DAVE, and the campaign will be active through June 6th.

Host Dave Asprey sits down with Professor Andrew Salzman, MD / Chief Medical Officer at Wonderfeel , a physician, inventor, and biomedical entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience in drug discovery and development. An alumnus of Harvard Medical School, Yale University, and Columbia University, Dr. Salzman has authored more than 170 scientific publications and holds 50 patents. He invented the original clinical-stage PARP-1 inhibitor, leading to the world's first clinical treatment for raising NAD levels and fighting cancers caused by the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Genentech licensed his breakthrough technology for $600 million. His research into gastrointestinal microbiota, autoimmune disease, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial ATP production now forms the foundation of how millions of patients get treated worldwide.

You'll Learn:
-Why NAD declines with age and which two enzymes are primarily responsible for draining it
-How CD38 rises with inflammation rather than NAD levels, and what that means for your supplement strategy
-Why creatine is one of the most underrated anti-aging and brain optimization supplements available
-How creatine functions as a spatial and temporal energy delivery network for your brain, gut, and heart
-Why the gut may be the origin point of the entire aging process and how that cascade unfolds decade by decade
-How leaky gut drives systemic inflammation, crashes NAD, and accelerates biological aging throughout the body
-What controls tight junction integrity and how ATP, butyrate, creatine, and fasting all play a role
-Why most creatine supplements fail to absorb properly and what to look for in a high-quality source
-How to rebuild your microbiome in three to four weeks through diet alone, without antibiotics
-Why walking immediately after a meal may be doing more harm than good to your gut lining

Lyrics
I'm trying to hold my breath
Let it stay this way
Can't let this moment end
You set off a dream in me
Getting louder now
Can you hear it echoing?
Take my hand
Will you share this with me?
'Cause darling, without you

All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough
Never be enough
Towers of gold are still too little
These hands could hold the world but it'll
Never be enough
Never be enough

For me
Never, never
Never, never
Never, for me
For me
Never enough
Never enough
Never enough
For me
For me
For me

All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough
Never be enough
Towers of gold are still too little
These hands could hold the world but it'll
Never be enough
Never be enough

For me
Never, never
Never, never
Never, for me
For me
Never enough
Never, never
Never enough
Never, never
Never enough
For me
For me
For me

Bio:
Loren Allred is best known for her jaw-dropping vocal performance of the RIAA multi-platinum song “Never Enough” from the Oscar nominated and Grammy award winning “The Greatest Showman” soundtrack and film. Being the voice in the film and not the actress, Loren was mostly an industry secret until April 2022 when she appeared on Britain's Got Talent performing “Never Enough”. The story of finally connecting her face to song, launched her into the semi-finals and finals of the competition. Loren’s three performances earned rave reviews from judges Amanda Holden (“Astonishing”), Simon Cowell ("Iconic"), Alisha Dixon (“Transcendent”) and David Williams (“Superstar”). She performed her new single “Last Thing I’ll Ever Need” making her television debut as a songwriter.

Prior to her recent emergence Loren dueted with Michael Bublé' on his 2019 Love album for the classic “Help Me Make It Through the Night.” She appeared alongside chart-topping songwriter, producer, and maestro to the stars, David Foster, as part of his An Intimate Evening PBS Concert Special and album in November 2019.

In 2021 and 2022, Loren began to release original music via her EP “Late Bloomer”. Singles “Til I Found You” and “This Summer” received positive reviews, Loren also toured her new music, and appeared on tours with Andrea Bocelli and David Foster through 2022.

📖 Plot:
The Scarlet Hour is a moody late-era film noir about obsession, temptation, and betrayal. A respected police officer becomes romantically involved with the restless wife of a wealthy man. What begins as a dangerous affair soon turns into a criminal scheme involving theft and murder. As guilt and paranoia take hold, the characters spiral toward tragedy, revealing the destructive power of desire and moral compromise.

Stylish and psychologically driven, the film reflects noir’s shift in the mid-1950s toward darker emotional complexity.

🎥 Interesting Facts:
✅ Directed by Michael Curtiz, best known for classics like Casablanca.
✅ One of the last traditional film noirs produced in Hollywood’s classic era.
✅ Focuses heavily on internal conflict rather than procedural crime elements.

Western Movie: Django, Prepare a Coffin - A gunfighter forms a gang of "deceased" execution victims to get revenge on the politician and outlaw who killed his wife.

Django, Prepare a Coffin (1968)
Director: Ferdinando Baldi
Writers: Franco Rossetti (story), Franco Rossetti (screenplay)
Stars: Terence Hill, Horst Frank, George Eastman
Genres: Western | Action
Country: Italy
Language: English
Release Date: 5 July 1968 (West Germany)
Also Known As: Get the Coffin Ready
Filming Locations: Elios Film, Rome, Lazio, Italy

Storyline:
A mysterious gunfighter named Django is employed by a local crooked political boss as a hangman to execute innocent locals framed by the boss, who wants their land. What the boss doesn't know is that Django isn't hanging the men at all, just making it look like he is, and using the men he saves from the gallows to build up his own "gang" in order to take revenge on the boss, who, with Django's former best friend, caused the death of his wife years before.

Reviews:
"Here is a early film of Terence Hill as Django, the legendary machine-gunning mystery man always bent on revenge. This is a terrific film and the best Django since the original with Franco Nero. Terence Hill plays the part perfectly & along with a very good cast. Django had always been one of my favorite western characters. The character is always so dark and without the pretentiousness that some westerns have at times. If you like westerns that are dark & all about revenge you will really enjoy this. The soundtrack is great with the usual belting out of "DJANGOOOO!!!" that you'll find in various songs that are in the other 857645645645645 Django movies. If you ever find a copy of this film pick it up for sure, it is almost impossible to find these days." Written by AriSquad on IMDb.com

Genre: Western, Spaghetti Western
Country: Spain, Italy
Language: English

Story:
A group of bandits, led by the notorious Luke Morgan, steal an army stongbox of gold from a stage and retreat to their hideout with a kidnapped passenger as hostage. Carrancho, in turn steals it again, hides it in a grave and the chase is on.

Review:
Sizable role for the legendary Spaghetti Western character actor Fernando Sancho. More of a sympathetic character than his typical bandito role.
Good music, but the voice selection for the English dub could have been better, especially for Rosalba Neri, who looks exceptionally beautiful here for a female in a western.
One of the best westerns Rosie got cast in, although it was a lousy role for her, just a woman reacting to the actions of the men, kind of a waste of her abilities. Nice performances by George Martin and Daniel Martín.
Worth a watch for fans of Fernando Sancho and Rosalba Neri completionists. Written by Jreg32 on letterboxd.com

Free Western Movie: Trinity Sees Red - Spaghetti Western - This western is set in Valencia, Spain at the end of the 19th century, and stars Terence Hill as a close-mouthed gunslinger.

Trinity Sees Red (1970)
Director: Mario Camus
Writers: Manuel Marinero (story) (as Manolo Marinero), Mario Camus
Stars: Terence Hill, Maria Grazia Buccella, Mario Pardo
Genres: Drama | Western
Country: Italy | Spain
Language: English
Release Date: 20 October 1972 (West Germany)
Also Known As: Trinity schlägt zurück
Filming Locations: Almonte, Huelva, Andalucía, Spain

Storyline:
This western is set in Valencia, Spain at the end of the 19th century, and stars Terence Hill as a close-mouthed gunslinger. The bad guy is the local landlord and aristocrat (Fernando Rey), who horribly abuses the laborers in his community.

Reviews:
Warning: Spoilers
"Tight-lipped and blithely indifferent gunslinger Marco (a fine and intense Terence Hill in a refreshing change-of-pace serious role) gets hired by evil land baron Don Antonio (the always excellent Fernando Ray) to assassinate a man who's planning to start a revolution amongst the local oppressed and impoverished peasants. After finishing his assignment, Marco realizes the error of his ways and sides with the peasants to overthrow Antonio's cruel reign. Director Mario Camus, who also co-wrote the thoughtful and literate script, eschews the expected shoot 'em up formula in favor of something more lofty and ambitious: a thinking man's oater that deals with the weighty Marxist theme of how the strong and wealthy upper class make their living exploiting and degrading the poor and powerless lower class. While it sounds heavy-handed and the pace periodically drags in spots, this movie nonetheless manages to be a gripping and satisfying viewing experience thanks to the well-drawn central characters, the right-on leftist politics, and occasional outbursts of exciting and well-staged action. Kudos are also in order for the sturdy acting from a capable cast: Hill in particular excels in a meaty non-comedic lead role, plus there are praiseworthy contributions from Rey, Mario Pardo as Marco's loyal, easygoing brother and partner Jacobo, Maximo Valverde as the mean Ramon, Angel Lombarte as the hot-headed, but decent and charismatic worker's union leader Jose, Maria Grazia Buccella as feisty hotel proprietor Soledad, and William Layton as the humane Don Lucas. Roberto Geraldi's bright, picturesque cinematography does the trick. Augusto Martelli's twangy score likewise hits the harmonic spot. A pleasant surprise." Written by Woodyanders on IMDb.com.

Kill the Wicked! - Good Samaritan drifter, Benny Hudson and a stranded woman, Jenny finds themselves being torture; when they accidentally walk into an gang's hideout in a ghost town.

Kill the Wicked! (1967)
Director: Tanio Boccia (as Amerigo Anton)
Writer: Mino Roli (as Mike Ashley)
Stars: Larry Ward, Rod Dana, Furio Meniconi
Country: Italy | Spain
Language: English
Release Date: 15 October 1971 (West Germany)
Also Known As: Blod for dollars

Storyline:
Good Samaritan drifter, Benny Hudson and a stranded woman, Jenny finds themselves being torture; when they accidentally walk into an gang's hideout in a ghost town.

Reviews:
"Larry Ward is toplined in this low budget Italian/Spanish oater for some reason; he has less screen time than the other male leads, except for Robert Mark, who disappears early on only to reappear toward the end. Ward was an American actor who had quite a few TV appearances, mostly in westerns, and appears suited to play the town storekeeper, or priest, or councilman, hardly a wandering adventurer. Mark has plenty of charisma as Randall, one of a quartet of killers who hole up in a wonderfully dilapidated ghost town, hiding out until they can escape over the border. Ben (Ward) and Judy, recently widowed, ride into town and are taken prisoner by the gang, who enjoy toying with them. Meanwhile the money has disappeared, Braddock (the fine Furio Meniconi), the leader, is growing agitated, and his lover Shelley is looking around for a better deal. This script was the blueprint for the later MATALO! which is virtually identical, with the addition of boomerangs. The remake is a little crazier, with the women dressing like hippies and wild camera-work, psychedelic music, and a Gothic atmosphere, but KILL THE WICKEDS is a good time for western buffs, available on a nice double feature from Wild East, teamed with KILL OR BE KILLED, also starring Robert Mark." "After a bloody stagecoach robbery, a nasty gang of cutthroats leave a wounded compatriot to die on the plains while they go hide out in a ghost-town and begin making hostages out of whoever comes along.

A shoestring spaghetti western with a fairly thin plot, this benefits from it's bright, colorful look and the fact that this is pretty interesting visually. The story is told primarily in pictures, with only sparse dialog for the most part. If you turn off the sound, you'd still get the gist of what's going on.

One thing I particularly enjoyed was the gang's lone female member. She was really cute and looked great in and out of her leather pants! There's definitely better Italian westerns out there, but a lot worse too. This is worth a look for fans who've seen everything." Written by FightingWesterner on IMDb.com

Hey filmmakers and film lovers! 🎬 Welcome back to Ben on Film! Today, we’re diving into one of the most iconic and stylish subgenres in cinema history: spaghetti westerns. But have you ever wondered why they’re called spaghetti westerns? Well, that’s exactly what we’re exploring today. So grab your popcorn, saddle up, and let’s ride into the world of Italian-made Westerns! 🤠🍝

Where Did the Term 'Spaghetti Western' Come From?
The name spaghetti western comes from the fact that these films were primarily produced and directed by Italian filmmakers during the 1960s and 1970s. Critics originally coined the term in a slightly mocking way, referencing Italy’s most famous dish—spaghetti—to highlight the fact that these Westerns were made outside the U.S.

But while the term may have started as a joke, it has since become a badge of honor, recognizing the unique, gritty style that these films brought to the Western genre.

The Influence of Classic American Westerns
Before spaghetti westerns emerged, Hollywood had already set the standard with American Westerns—big-budget films featuring clear-cut heroes and villains, starring legends like John Wayne and Gary Cooper, and directed by greats like John Ford.

But by the 1960s, the American Western was beginning to feel repetitive. That’s where Italian filmmakers stepped in and redefined the genre with a fresh, darker, and more morally complex approach.

The Birth of the Spaghetti Western
The spaghetti western revolution began with Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars (1964), which became an instant hit. This success launched a wave of Italian-made Westerns, known for:
✔ Low budgets but high creativity
✔ Filming in Spain and Italy to replicate the American West
✔ Morally ambiguous antiheroes instead of the traditional cowboy hero
✔ Stylized, intense violence and gritty storytelling

These weren’t your typical "white hat vs. black hat" Westerns—these films explored moral gray areas, featuring rugged loners, ruthless villains, and lawless landscapes.

The Sound of Spaghetti Westerns: Ennio Morricone’s Legendary Scores
A major hallmark of the spaghetti western was its unforgettable music, especially the work of Ennio Morricone. His soundtracks for films like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966) defined the genre, with:
🎵 Whistling melodies and haunting instrumentals
🎵 Dramatic, tension-filled scores
🎵 Unconventional sounds—gunshots, bells, and chants

Morricone’s music made these films instantly recognizable and remains some of the most famous film music of all time.

The Lasting Legacy of Spaghetti Westerns
Though their peak was in the 1960s and ‘70s, spaghetti westerns continue to influence modern cinema. Directors like Quentin Tarantino have drawn heavy inspiration from these films, as seen in Django Unchained and Kill Bill.

Even today, movies like The Mandalorian and Logan carry the DNA of the gritty, stylized world of spaghetti westerns.

Final Takeaway: A Genre with a Unique Flavor
So, why are they called spaghetti westerns? The name comes from their Italian origins, but these films became so much more than a nickname—they revolutionized Westerns with their brutal realism, complex characters, and unforgettable soundtracks.

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend watching Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy, especially The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It’s an experience you won’t forget!

The remake is a little crazier, with the women dressing like hippies and wild camera-work, psychedelic music, and a Gothic atmosphere, but KILL THE WICKEDS is a good time for western buffs, available on a nice double feature from Wild East, teamed with KILL OR BE KILLED, also starring Robert Mark."
