David Stout grew up on a ranch in Michigan, heating his family’s home with firewood and learning early that hard work was not optional.

In college, he built a web services company generating more than $750,000 a year. But instead of staying comfortable, he dropped out and chased a problem almost nobody understood.

With a $400 loan from his grandfather and one shared computer, David and his co-founder began building artificial intelligence that could run directly on personal devices.

Investors rejected them. Silicon Valley questioned the market. Some believed serious AI innovation could not come from Michigan.

David kept building. Today, webAI is valued at $2.5 billion, employs around 200 people, and is developing technology designed to let individuals own their intelligence instead of renting it from Big Tech.
