The FUNNIEST Animals Ever On Johnny Carson Show

The FUNNIEST Animals Ever On Johnny Carson Show

For nearly thirty years, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson turned the late-night couch into the wildest stage on television, and nothing proved that more than the animals who walked through it. This video revisits eleven of the funniest animal segments in Carson history, from a champion rooster out of Charles City, Iowa to a two-thousand-pound water buffalo named Waldo that Johnny ended up riding live on national television.
You will see the moments that defined an entire generation of late-night comedy, told with verified airdates, real handler names, and the actual quotes Johnny delivered in real time. Joan Embery, the longtime goodwill ambassador for the San Diego Zoo, brought roughly seventy of these animals onto Johnny's couch over the years. Jim Fowler of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom appeared anywhere from forty to more than a hundred times depending on the source, and his visits produced some of the most genuinely hilarious mishaps in the entire run of the program.
Among the standout segments covered: Howard the laughing myna bird from December 1976, a clip that still racks up over a million views online; the September 1974 episode where a cheetah swatted at Johnny and sent him leaping into Ed McMahon's arms; and Zippy the Chimp's spaghetti-and-meatballs flop from May 1986, capped off by Carson's perfect deadpan closer. Each entry includes the original airdate, the handler, and the exact moment that made Johnny crack up on camera.
This channel revisits the people, moments, and behind-the-scenes stories that shaped the golden age of American television.
