Rock solid western.
I'm starting to become a big fan of Joel McCrea. He is a consistently entertaining western hero. He his always believable. He gives a solid, tough performance in "The Tall Stranger", which is a solid, tough movie. It's a fast moving and often a very tense watch. It's well acted by the entire cast, especially Barry Kelley. I should watch this one more often. Honorable mention: a dreamy Virginia Mayo. Written by pmtelefon on imdb.com

Zaczynam być wielkim fanem Joela McCrea. Jest on bohaterem westernów, który niezmiennie zapewnia rozrywkę. Zawsze jest wiarygodny. W filmie „The Tall Stranger” – który sam w sobie jest solidnym, mocnym obrazem – prezentuje solidną, twardą grę aktorską. Film ogląda się szybko, a momentami jest bardzo napięty. "I checked out this film because of its star, Ty Hardin, and its intriguing title, and whatever you can say about it, it isn't boring! The first half of the film is the comedic, episodic story of "Sacramento" Thompson, who seems to be constantly getting into problems from which his grown children must save him, and who is a jack-of-all-trades including prizefighter and preacher! The first half of the film is leisurely paced and even features a gospel song. Hardin, who has always had a roguish charm, is perfect for this role and he's decked out in a gray-tinted beard, flashing his winning smile. Then, about halfway through the film, an event I won't mention triggers a kidnapping/revenge plot that continues through the rest of the movie. Without a star of Ty Hardin's talent and charm, I don't know if I would have finished watching this film, but he manages to make it all worthwhile. Hardin made a number of interesting films in Europe in the late 60s and early 70s. This one certainly does not resemble any other spaghetti western I've seen, so for that reason...AND to see Hardin's entertaining performance...fans of the genre might want to seek out this film." No Wasted Days - original single with a calm and reflective mood remembering her father and reminding us to make the most of each day. In the video, you'll see a few scenes with a beautiful lady at the piano and Evie and her brother and sisters all around. You then get a peek of Evie's late father through the dancing children. This was a video from a visit with good friends, The Warrens. Julia Warren wrote the music and lyrics for No Wasted Days with Evie in mind to record it. On Evie's parents' 20th anniversary it was the night of the quarter-finals for America's Got Talent. Evie's dad was in the hospital in Arizona and Evie and her mom were in California. Evie's dad called Julia's husband, Chris Warren, to bring Evie's mom an anniversary gift since they lived in California. It was the last gift she would get from her sweet husband in this life. Evie and her mom made it home before he passed away but by that time he was already unresponsive.  The Warrens have supported and loved Evie and her family through good times and heartbreaking times. Evie loved recording this song from Julia's heart and hopes you will let it fill you with love and gratitude for the good people in your lives.

"Once you get down to brass tacks Enzo D'ellAquia's TEQUILA JOE is pretty much an Italiano budget line take on Howard Hawks' RIO BRAVO and more specifically EL DORADO, the 1967 film where the Duke and James Caan ride into town to help drunkard sheriff Robert Mitchum fend off Christopher George and his gang of hired guns as they try to drive chesty Michelle Carey and her family off their land.

Italian genre cinema favorite Fernando di Leo essentially pared the plot ideas for EL DORADO down to their bare minimum, compressing the Wayne, Caan, and Carey characters down into Jean Sobieski's Deputy Bert, young and inexperienced but fast on the draw and more idealistic than the man he's trying to help rehabilitate. Which would be Croatian actor Anthony Gidra's "Tequila Joe", a small town sheriff who has given himself up to drink and neglect after a personal tragedy.

Things come to a head when it's revealed that the town bosses had a hand in that tragedy, and that Sobieski's character has a very personal stake in seeing them brought to justice that only becomes clear during the final showdown as the two lawmen take on the bad guys in a sprawling, bloody gunfight. Unless of course you've seen more than five of these things and figure it out the minute you see the two standing side by side. Took me about half the first reel.

Sobieski is somewhat wooden as the novice but highly skilled younger gunfighter, bearing more than a passing resemblance to John Phillip Law that can hardly be an accident. The real show is Gidra's conflicted and self tortured drunken sheriff. He may not have had the range as an actor that came so natural to Robert Mitchum but he is fabulous as the forlorn, grizzled, regret-filled veteran who completely resents the younger man's efforts to help him.

Gidra's face has a kind of quiet hurt to it that is well served by the role: His characters are almost always thoughtful and melancholy, and he shines in some of the scenes of introspection where Joe is forced to concede that he really is washed up & unable to cope with the threat even if he wanted to. It's also interesting to see the reverse of the Lee Van Cleef effect of an older veteran taking a younger gunslinger under his wing to show him the ropes. Rather it's the younger guy who has to show the bewildered older lawman why he should care by putting them both in a situation where they have everything to lose, since all they have left in the world is each other.

It's also a far less boisterous film than either of the Howard Hawks movies, with the bulk of the movie set indoors with people talking to each other. Like most Anthony Gidra spaghettis the tone of the film is rather dry if not downright serious with a lack of the paste-in comic relief roles usually found in an Italian made western. Gidra's agent must have had a contract claus forbidding comedy. The movie is still stylishly photographed with that Holodeck look of un-reality that makes 1968 such an interesting year for spaghetti westerns; everybody looks like they are wearing a costume except for Gidra, who looks like he just rolled out of his cot. During his pursuit of outlaw leader Sonora, Foster is wounded and takes refuge with Mary Patterson. There he learns that Mary's reckless younger brother Jimmy has become involved with Sonora's gang.

Story:
Turning up after having found out a few days ago that the towns bank has been robbed, glasses wearing bounty hunter Stan Ross enters the a near by saloon, and quickly shows the tough locals that even if they are able to take his sight away from him, he still has enough cunning in his fighting skills to knock them all to the ground.
Impressed by Stan's no nonsense approach, mayor and bank manager of the town (who also has total control over what goes on in the town) Jefferson accepts Ross's request for money if he is able to capture one of the Mexican bandits from the recent robbery, dead or alive.
Careful give a silent and stern exterior appearance instead of a trigger happy one, Ross finds the Mexican bandits hiding in the mountain, and quickly ends up coming face to face with bandit leader Espartero.
Allowing Espartero to give the shocking news that he and his gang had no connection at all to the robbery, and also that Espartero had been recently working closely with Jefferson, Stan begins to wonder if Jefferson has a much stronger grip on the city than he had ever expected.

Review:
Worth Watching when You're Going through the Genre One After the Other
Whether you think this movie was atypical or not, I think, comes down to what you pay attention to. If you're the kind that gets into personal details, you'll likely think that, but if you're looking at the genre top down it's not that different than the standard fare. I felt it was a solid example of the genre and worth watching for genre-philes. It does well with non SW lovers as well, so, a solid entry I say. You could argue that it is very typical in the way it is atypical. The glasses are a good example. Seems an odd touch if you think of it in an absolute sense, but typical "routinely does the highly improbable" in SW terms.

Any Gun Can Play (Italian: Vado... l'ammazzo e torno) is a 1967 spaghetti western starring Gilbert Roland, Edd Byrnes and George Hilton. The film is directed by Enzo G. Castellari and features a score by Francesco De Masi and Alessandro Alessandroni. It follows a familiar pattern of protagonists searching for gold, double-crossing one another and a high body count. In the opening scene one of the three outlaws is dressed very similar to Clint Eastwood's character in the "Dollars" trilogy, one is dressed as Lee Van Cleef's characters in those and other westerns, and one as Franco Nero's character Django.

"If you adore Italian produced spaghetti westerns as much as I do Roberto Montero's THUNDER OVER EL PASO (as the version I saw was titled) is pretty much everything fans of Italo Westerns watch them for. Cynical anti-heroes, offbeat locations, low-rent production values, atmospheric photography, some pretty Euro damsels ready to hop in bed with the lead actor and a healthy, bone crunching quota of violence ruthlessly dished out. Plus a compelling little musical score, this one an upbeat harmonica led folker by Carlo Savina.

Polizichetti tough guy actor Antonio Sabato joins forces with Chris Avram as a pair of surprisingly vicious black hat heroes who go after a big greasy pistolero boss and his gang of cutthroats who nabbed $200,000 in gold bars. So much for the plot; The rest of the movie is an enjoyable if forgettable mish-mash of shootings, beatings, knife throwing, jail breaks, showdowns, plots, counter-plots and a few minutes cozying up with jaw droppingly beautiful Pilar Velazquez. Her pickup line "I'm 18 and I know what I like!" would work on me too.

Director Roberto Bianchi Montero is perhaps better known for his Giallo exploitation masterpiece SO SWEET SO DEAD and demonstrates a similar skill at moving the plot forward. The pace never drags and while nothing overtly spectacular or memorable happens the movie never pushes a wrong button. Even the requisite Torture Scene is over & done with without much fuss, and interestingly is inflicted by the protagonists rather than on them. Here are two guys who'd waterboard somebody without thinking about it, the only difference between themselves & the villain being that they get to score with the leading ladies.

One interesting aspect about the film is that it's pretty much an all Italian affair with no imported big-name Yankee star. Then again by 1972 the Italians no longer felt the urgency to have a recognizable name for the American markets and just got on with the business at hand of making their movies. Also for a 1972 spaghetti western it is notable for not having a comedy formula ala the Trinity films, and instead focuses squarely on the juvenile fantasy & violence angle. Good show!

Evie's most recent original song to give tribute to her late father who passed away from cancer in 2017. Since losing her father, Evie processed her grief by turning to God and improving her relationship with Him. Evie now has a beautiful family of her own and while she can find so much joy in each day of the life she's created, Sunshine Through Your Ghost reflects on the grief that is ever present. Evie wishes to express through her music that it's okay to feel pain and joy simultaneously and she welcomes the waves of emotions. Through it all, she promises to keep the memory of her father alive in her children through stories and songs.

An amazing group called Kids Kicking Cancer brought together two friends and competitors from America's Got Talent season 12 for a stunning interview with Rabbi G. My guest today is Tom Bilyeu, the entrepreneur behind Quest Nutrition who went on to build Impact Theory into one of the most watched long form interview channels in the world. Tom is now building a procedurally generated video game called Kyzen, and in recent years his content has shifted away from personal development and toward economics, artificial intelligence, and the systems that quietly shape how we live. I wanted to sit with him inside that shift, to understand what pulled him away from the mindset conversation he had mastered and toward questions about money, power, and the trajectory of intelligence itself.

What We Dive Into:
1. Tom credits his success to a simple loop: predict an outcome, run the experiment, and stay honest about what actually happened. He treats being wrong as useful data rather than a threat to his identity, which lets him adjust quickly instead of defending a position that clearly isn't working anymore.
2. Tom argues that meaning isn't discovered but handed to us by evolution as an empty box we get to fill. For him that box holds his wife and his work, and he believes people struggle most when whatever filled the box, a job, a role, a relationship, disappears and nothing takes its place.
3. Tom's core financial message is that not owning assets quietly erodes your purchasing power through inflation, whether you notice it or not. He believes the escape route is available to almost anyone, but most people never take the step of investing consistently over decades instead of waiting for certainty.
