Trump downplays calls for slowdown in AI development
President Trump is downplaying concerns about the dangers of artificial intelligence. Anthropic's CEO suggested over the weekend the industry slow its development of AI to ensure more safeguards are put in place. Trump says he doesn’t want to give China any advantage.
Trump says some of what's being said is exaggerated: "I’m not downplaying, but it’s going to be more good than bad, but a a lot. I’ve said it from the beginning ... whoever wins AI win."
Meanwhile, it’s not clear what kind of slowdown AI company leaders might agree on.
Anthropic, Google and Microsoft are among NPR's financial supporters.
