Johnny Carson's farewell episode of the Tonight Show on May 22, 1992 featured a monologue and many clips of previous guests, musicians, comedians, skits, and more.

This particular VHS recording was from WVTM 13 in Birmingham, Alabama, and has a brief local lead-in, and includes commercials.

This episode already exists on YouTube, but here it has been cleaned up some and upconverted to 1080p60 (each NTSC field converted to its own frame) to better preserve quality and motion. The sound is also broadcast MTS stereo on hi-fi tracks. However, it's still limited by the specs of good ol' VHS, in this case a RCA VR671HF from 1990.

For nearly thirty years, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson turned the late-night couch into the wildest stage on television, and nothing proved that more than the animals who walked through it. This video revisits eleven of the funniest animal segments in Carson history, from a champion rooster out of Charles City, Iowa to a two-thousand-pound water buffalo named Waldo that Johnny ended up riding live on national television.

Joan Embery, the longtime goodwill ambassador for the San Diego Zoo, brought roughly seventy of these animals onto Johnny's couch over the years.
