On this episode of Club Shay Shay, Shannon Sharpe sits down with rising stand-up sensation Ralph Barbosa — the chill king of comedy with a dry wit and a Netflix special to prove it.

Ralph opens up about the moment he got the call about his Hulu special, how bad he is at acting, and his hilarious (and very real) reaction to finding out Dallas traded Luka. Raised by his grandparents, he explains why they were the best parents for him and shares memories of spending summers in Mexico, moving between different family members, and growing up as an only child — until more siblings came into the picture.

He keeps it honest about his dating life, why he’s not trying to get married, and what it was like watching his mom date when he was younger. From spinning the block on exes to red flags in relationships, Ralph isn’t holding back.

In school, Ralph was cutting more than class — he was cutting hair, learning how to be a barber (and messing up a few heads along the way), fighting friends in the restroom between periods, and discovering the strange difference between barber licenses and gun licenses in Texas.

He also talks about his stand-up grind — from getting booed at his first open mic to performing at a gentleman’s club, and eventually selling out Chicago.

In the second half of Ralph's conversation with Shannon, he gives advice to young comedians, reflects on meeting Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, and Adam Sandler, and even shares the story of smoking a cigarette with Chappelle and being starstruck by how “beautiful” Kevin Hart looked.

Ralph shares how it felt to take his mom and grandma out of debt after a big payday, his dream cars (a 1996 Impala SS and Nissan Skyline GTR R32), and how fame changed everything — especially when it comes to dating and getting recognized in public.

He opens up about being Type 1 diabetic, how it affected his confidence growing up, and the difference between how he parents now versus how his own dad showed up. Ralph also weighs in on politics, protesting, deportations, and gives his unfiltered take on Mexicans who support Trump.

And yes — he finally addresses the viral George Lopez drama, cancel culture, and why he still wants to be a comedy actor like Adam Sandler.

David Sinclair, a professor at Harvard Medical School, has said that he thinks the first person who will live to the age of 150 is already alive today. During a panel discussion about longevity at the TIME100 Health Leadership Forum in New York City on Sept. 10, TIME executive editor Nikhil Kumar asked Sinclair what motivated him to say that.

“Children born today will live into the 22nd century, and just think about in the last five years what’s happened to our world; it’s barely recognizable when it comes to AI and even the healthcare world,” Sinclair replied. “So, in the 22nd century, children born today are going to have access to technologies that we literally cannot even imagine now.”

Sinclair was joined on stage by Jennifer Garrison, a neuroscientist with expertise in the women’s health biotech field, and Jack Jia, the founder and CEO of Musely, a telehealth platform aimed at expanding access to personalized prescription care that sponsored the event on Sept. 10.

Dr. Philip Ovadia is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 5,000 heart surgeries and 25 years in the operating room. He grew up in New York and completed the accelerated Pre-Med/Med program at Penn State and Jefferson Medical College, followed by a General Surgery residency at UMDNJ and a Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at Tufts – New England Medical Center. He founded Ovadia Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2020 and launched Ovadia Heart Health in 2021, a virtual clinic serving patients worldwide.

Once a morbidly obese, pre-diabetic heart surgeon headed for his own operating table, Dr. Ovadia lost over 100 pounds and reversed his pre-diabetes by focusing on metabolic health. He's the author of Stay Off My Operating Table and the new Stay Off My Kitchen Table, and hosts the Stay Off My Operating Table podcast. He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida.



Dr. Philip Ovadia has performed more than 5,000 heart surgeries across 25 years in the operating room. His conclusion after all of it: the vast majority of those surgeries never needed to happen.

In this episode we go after what really causes heart disease, and why the explanation medicine has run on for 50 years doesn't hold up.

We start with the obvious question: is cholesterol the cause of heart disease, or has it simply been showing up at the scene of the crime? Dr. Ovadia's fireman analogy will permanently change how you read a lipid panel. Firemen are at every fire and never where there isn't one. That doesn't make them arsonists. Cholesterol is the repair crew, not the cause.

The actual root is insulin resistance and the inflammation that follows it. So we get practical about how to test for insulin resistance: the fasting insulin test that costs under $20 and almost no doctor orders, the HOMA-IR you can calculate yourself in under a minute, and the LPIR test that measures the quality of your cholesterol particles instead of the quantity. He also answers what is a normal fasting insulin level, and explains why the "normal" range printed on your lab report is set far too high to protect you.

Then we get into the medications. Do statins actually work, and if cholesterol were truly the primary cause, why is the absolute risk reduction only 1 to 4 percent? We also cover what more than five years of statin use does to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes risk. And we settle the question of should I take a baby aspirin every day, including the one specific number on a coronary calcium score that changes the answer entirely.

On food: does red meat cause heart disease? His billboard answer is "meat is medicine," and he defends it as essential to heart health rather than a threat to it. That leads straight into my own bloodwork. After my 90-day carnivore experiment, my total cholesterol hit 450 and my LDL hit 350. So is high LDL dangerous on carnivore? Dr. Ovadia reviewed my labs and told me my heart disease risk had actually gone down. His reasoning is worth the watch on its own.

We also cover the signs of insulin resistance you can see without any blood draw at all: skin tags around the eyelids and neck, dark velvety patches, stubborn belly fat, the energy crash 45 minutes after eating. With 93 percent of Americans carrying some version of this, most people will recognize something.

And we close on how to prevent a heart attack naturally: what to test, what to eat, why building and maintaining muscle beats chronic cardio for metabolic health, and the four-week framework from his new book, Stay Off My Kitchen Table.
